Commodore's Update - The Season Ahead

Happy New Year! Given we are now in 2024, I thought I should get tapping on my keyboard to give everyone an update on what's going on at the club. First of all, I'm sure you would all like to know that sailing will restart on Easter Sunday (Sunday 31 st March). We typically start sailing on the first Sunday in April but, given that would be the 8 th

    Commodore's Report - AGM 2023

We have had a relatively quiet year from my point of view both work and family life have taken their toll on 'spare' time, with no obvious, significant forecast to change hence the need to step down this year after three years at the helm. Membership has remained good although we lost both our corporate members Wilderness Outdoors Education (WOE) who really need less wind than the lake has to offer

    Round the Lake - Postponement

Hi all, Due to the forecast for 40mph gusts at the club tomorrow, the Round the Lake trophy is being postponed by one week. It will now be raced on 6th August. Any races that do manage to take place tomorrow will count towards the Occasional Series. I will update the Racing Calendar to reflect the changes as soon as I can. Hopefully we will have some better weather next week! Sorry for

    Club Regatta

A number of boats turned up to compete for the Club Regatta. There were four races with one discard, sailed in a tricky north easterly wind. Two races in the morning were won by James H. The Wanderer and the Enterprise had a bit of a coming together. A window in the foresail of the Wanderer might help avoid such blindspots in the future. New member Maggie arrived at lunchtime and went for a

    Discover Sailing Day

Huge thanks to all of the club members that gave up their day today to help run the "try sailing" event. An enormous effort and you really showed off the club. Give yourself a huge pat on the back and proudly say you have given to the community and done your bit for charity. Special thanks to Richard H for organising the day and coordinating everything and everyone. The day progressed exactly to schedule

    The Club Is Buzzing

There was a buzz about the club today; something new that I had not experienced before - it passed me on the first beat. Yes it was Richard L's new boat; a Topper Buzz. Richard with Ian as crew were trying to get to grips with it. A task that was made harder by a rather light and shifty wind. To make matters worse the race officer threw in a downwind run that sometimes required

    Club Sailing 23/10/22

At 10-30 am today low cloud meant that you could hardly see your hand in front of your face, but inside the clubhouse our new lights dispelled the gloom and members were soon inspired to venture forth to test out the water both in and on the reservoir. It was pouring down but quite warm with a light easterly breeze and a fleet of Lasers took to the water for a gentle race. Finn G
