Why don’t you come and join the virtual regatta?

Below are the results from Tuesday’s racing. A couple of our regular competitors were absent; one was doing her homework getting ready for home schooling starting, and another was attending the RYA Push the Boat Out regional conference. For those of you who have not yet had a go you are very welcome to join us, you can even spectate too if you do not want to get your feet wet! Last might we sailed at Cowes, Portsmouth and Dubai. It was generally agreed that the wind in Dubai was very flukey with massive shifts and gusts that were very short lived and required frequent changes of course. Many helms lamented that “if it hadn’t been for that header I would have…”. Now where have I heard that before?

The racing itself is getting a bit more competitive with those who are new to the game showing steady improvement. Richard L returned a good set of results and recorded his first race win. Phantomant, otherwise known as the Commodore, suddenly discovered a good set up and posted some solid results in the last three races. Wavey was doing well, including a first, and then slumped in the last two races, but for the second week the stand out helm was Ian Y. Despite a fifth in the final race (his discard) Ian won overall.

Each week’s races are being counted as a separate result in the series standings, with the worst result being a discard, so there is still everything to play for. At the moment Toby is in the lead but only a couple of points separate the top three places so a number of helms could win overall next week.

Next week we will use a different boat in each race; Laser, Star, Offshore Racer, J70 and 49er, with the final race counting for double points. It should be fun. See you there!
