Racing at Grassholme:
If you're new to dinghy racing, have a read of our Start Racing Guide first for the basics and how to join in.
Scoring - We use the current published RYA PY list for handicap racing. Pursuit races are set at 45 or 60 minutes, with start times adjusted according to the same PY numbers. Club-specific adjustments as encouraged by the RYA may be made to aid to ensure fair racing, at the discretion of the committee. The current PY list for boats sailing at the club in recent years is available here.
Fleets - We run races for a single handicap fleet, shortening the course where required to achieve the target length (see below) and to allow slower boats time to complete the race within the time limit.
Timings - We aim to work to the following timings for regular Sunday racing series.

One-off events (shown in bold in the table above), the Pursuit Series and the Evening Series will have different timings and special arrangements. Please watch for announcements and updates on our website.
Discards - The number of results that can be disregarded when scoring for the series or event as a whole. Other than for one-day events, we aim to set this between a quarter and a third of the number of races in a series. The numbers above may be altered at the discretion of the Race Officer to maintain this ratio (e.g., if races are abandoned due to adverse weather conditions).
