Out & About - New Season Begins

The new season has begun.
On 6th April, members turned up to the Icebreaker to find it was... sunny! Those sailors who had thoroughly prepared for the elements soon found themselves overheating. A friendly (if shifty) breeze blew throughout the day, making for some tight tactical racing. Hot broth was waiting in the clubhouse for the hungry sailors at lunch time - our thanks to Andrew and Laura H. Mila also took the opportunity to graduate from Pico sailing to a Laser 4.7. In a relief to everyone, the winner of the 2025 Capsize Cup (for the first capsize in a competitive race) was decided at the first buoy of the first race. Philip W in the National 12, rolled alarmingly in the turn, forcing Mark M to take sudden avoiding action in his Supernova. Both dinghies capsized almost simultaneously. Following adudication, Philip W has been awarded the trophy (...and the rest of us can breath a sigh of relief).
The next weekend, the second round of the Icebreaker, was a very different affair. With big gusts sweeping down the reservoir, and the rigging onshore whistling away, any thought of racing was rapidly abandoned. Instead only the bravest ventured onto the water. Although thoroughly drenched by spray, they were rewarded with some exhilarating sailing - speeding up and down the lake. Those onshore though had the entertainment of admiring James & Jayne's new RS 200's arrival at the club. Hopefully the maiden voyage will be soon.
Final positions in the Icebreaker are avaialble at the Results section of the website.
Winds of 8mph (Gusting 18mph) from ESE promise another good day this Sunday - hope to see you at the club!
