Club Sailing 23/10/22

At 10-30 am today low cloud meant that you could hardly see your hand in front of your face, but inside the clubhouse our new lights dispelled the gloom and members were soon inspired to venture forth to test out the water both in and on the reservoir. It was pouring down but quite warm with a light easterly breeze and a fleet of Lasers took to the water for a gentle race. Finn G was back from his travels and demonstrated a dry launch, much to the amazement of the rest of the fleet. After the handicaps were worked out Peter W pipped James H by just one second.
In the afternoon race Richard H joined the Laser fleet and Sam M was given honorary membership of the fleet in his Streaker! The wind began to shift around to the south and provided a bit more interest. The race was remarkable for two tied finishes. Finn G and Ian Y crossed the line together in fourth place, whilst James H and Richard H tied for first place.
Full results are on the club website.
Considering the amount of water falling out of the sky a special vote of thanks must go to Andy G and Paul D in the safety boat. Also thanks to Fiona S, and sorry we didn't set out to give you two dead heats on your first OOD duty.
Author's note: I really beat James because I was at least 20 yards behind him at the start!
